St. Mark’s has an extensive missions program of activities that facilitate the support of many Local Mission Partners within Talbot County as well as multiple foreign mission projects. In addition, our missions program oversees the operation of a food pantry for St. Mark’s Village, coordinates our support of providing volunteer construction workers for Habitat for Humanity Choptank, oversees our Church’s Needy Fund, provides scholarship assistance for adults and/or youth participating in volunteers in mission projects, and other mission related activities.
St. Mark’s mission program funds its activities via income from the Thrift Shop and giving to missions through the envelope system of donations from the congregation. Last calendar year the Thrift Shop netted $18,324. and the envelopes brought in $39,396. With this income and some carry over from the previous year, St. Mark’s was able to share $33,300. with its 20 Local Mission Partners (non-profit and local government organizations). The types of these organizations include: hospice, mental health, housing, general health & welfare, homeless shelter, child care, etc. To eight conference supported Foreign Mission Projects (including a hospital, aviation transportation, Bible translation, agriculture education/food production, well drilling, etc.), we contributed $16,850. In addition, we were able to contribute $8,700. to the missions component of the Church’s annual conference apportionment.
